Learning that your loved one has a disability can be extremely traumatic and overwhelming. Many challenging questions arise: Where do I go to get services? What services are available? Who can help me? Finding the answers to these and many other questions can take days, weeks or even months of research and often result in confusion and frustration.
After studying this problem for two years, conducting research and focus groups, this year NCJW/Cleveland launched its new signature project: LiveSpecial.com, a free easy to use, online resource guide for families who have a loved one with special needs in northeast Ohio. The site provides information on doctors, therapists, and treatment options for people of all ages.
Already, the information on the site is changing lives. “I really think this is a G-d send for many of these families,” says Dr. Steven Wexberg, a Cleveland physician who works with children with special needs. “I think [the information on the site] is invaluable.”
To raise money for the site, NCJW/Cleveland has fundraisers, including last year’s Something Simmering cooking event, which featured eight local chefs and over 250 guests and this year’s benefit, One Special Night – Everyone Shines, honoring Scott Gohn, Elaine Eisner, and Dr. Steve Wexberg.
