NCJW Applauds Department of Education for Transparent Title VI Investigations
WASHINGTON — As the United States Department of Education expands transparency in its Title VI investigations of ancestry-based discrimination, National Council of Jewish Women CEO Sheila Katz released the following statement:
“National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) extends deep appreciation to the Department of Education for its transparency on open Title VI cases related to ancestry-discrimination investigations, including claims of antisemitism from Jewish students. The Department of Education launched a webpage to track these open investigations, illustrating a clear commitment to transparency in the investigative process. Schools and campuses should be nurturing environments where every student can thrive, and the Department of Education’s openness is a crucial step toward realizing this vision.
“Since October 7th, the Department of Education has initiated seven investigations, demonstrating genuine concern for the challenges faced by Jewish students nationwide. Equally noteworthy is the inclusion of two cases focused on the concerns of Muslim students.
“The transparency in these investigations not only fosters accountability but also plays a pivotal role in building trust for students facing adverse treatment because of their identity — empowering them to better understand the process and instilling confidence in the reporting system. National Council of Jewish Women will continue working in partnership with the Department of Education to ensure a safer and more inclusive academic environment for all.”
