Register for a series of Cleveland Museum of Art Classes beginning in October through May.

**THIS IS FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT CLASS REGISTRATIONS ONLY!

ART, ARTISTS, AND THEIR ENVIRONMENTS

NCJW/CLE and the Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) would be delighted to have you be a part of our 2023-2024 series.  Together we hope to create a memorable art museum journey with you as the year progresses.  Below is a summary of the upcoming year:

Across seven sessions, focused on the museum’s collection and special exhibitions, you will learn how environments have influenced artists’ choices, including subject matter, materials, processes, and style. The series will also explore the environment of the museum itself, revealing how conservators, technicians, and other museum staff present, display, and care for art objects.

Select individual session topics include: the artistic use and conservation of natural materials; how the natural environment of southern China influenced artistic production; and how the urban setting of Paris and its working-class populace inspired the art of Edgar Degas, among other topics. The series includes visits to CMA special exhibitions Chinas Southern Paradise: Treasures from the Lower Yangzi Delta and Degas and the Laundress: Women, Work, and Impressionism, and special sessions with guest speakers from the conservation and curatorial departments.
