PROTECT TRANS YOUTH, STOP HB 68

Take Action

House Bill 68 would ban critical, gender-affirming healthcare for minors, while further stigmatizing the transgender and non-binary community and their needs. Important medical decisions should remain between youths, their families, and medical providers – not our politicians.

This harmful legislation also negatively impacts physicians by threatening to remove the licenses of those who provide gender-affirming care and opening the door for civil lawsuits. HB 68 also places burdensome requirements on mental health professionals to report private information about their patients.

TAKE ACTION: Contact the Senate Government Oversight Committee and tell them to vote NO on HB 68 (committee members’ names and contact info below)

Sen. ________:

HB 68 interferes with the rights of Ohioans to access to safe, fact-based healthcare, as well as the right to keep their individual medical needs between them and their providers. Ohioans also deserve the opportunity to build community in activities and sports, not be ostracized for their gender identity.  House Bill 68 is a clear example of legislation in search of a problem that does not exist and represents state-sanctioned bullying against an already marginalized population.

Additionally, this harmful legislation also negatively impacts physicians by threatening to remove the licenses of those who provide gender-affirming care and opening the door for civil lawsuits. HB 68 also places burdensome requirements on mental health professionals to report private information about their patients.

Finally, rather than supporting transgender and gender non-conforming Ohioans, this bill only isolates them further by unnecessarily banning transgender women and girls from participating in sports teams that match their gender identity. Participation in team sports is a common way for children and young adults to build community, and LGBTQ Ohioans have every right to join in these activities.

LGBTQ youth deserve to feel safe and supported by their communities.  Trans youth belong, and discrimination has no place in our state.  I strongly urge you to vote against House Bill 68.  Thank you.
