Artists and Inspiration
Where do artists find their inspiration? Throughout time, artists have looked to current events, the work of fellow contemporary artists, as well as historical time periods to find inspiration for their art. Artists bring in references from nature, the industrial world, religious traditions, and everything in between, when creating art and responding to the world around them. This course will explore the many ways in which artists spark their creativity, and influence those around them.
Session topics will include: the artistic and technological innovations of the early 20th century in presented in the exhibition Rose Iron Works and Art Deco; the art historical inspirations that fuel contemporary Italian fashions in the special exhibition Renaissance to Runway: The Enduring Italian Houses; the artistic exchange between Impressionist artists Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot; as well as various artistic influences across the museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
